The event was created to fund a scholarship in honor of Johnson, a Mountwest employee for 27 years, who passed away in October 2011 after a long, hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Now the event also honors her daughter, Jennifer, who also passed away from the disease in 2012.

If you would like to make a donation you may make checks payable to the Mountwest Foundation, One Mountwest Way, Huntington, WV 25701, with Karen S. Johnson Scholarship Fund noted on the memo line. All contributions to the scholarship fund are tax deductible.

The Karen S. Johnson Memorial Scholarship awards a $1,000 scholarship to a male or female student who has had cancer or is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. The scholarship has been awarded three times since its inception, Please donate to this wonderful cause!

Want to learn more about the Pink Out event?
Send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can!
  1. Virtual Trivia Night – with drinks. Can we set up a virtual trivia game for people to play on Zoom? They are home, so an adult beverage could be encouraged, lol. You can charge $5 for an entry fee, with prizes for the winner.
  2. Swear Jar for the week – Ask everyone to create a swear jar and put $1 in every time they curse for the week. The jar will go to the pink out donations.
  3. Virtual Classes – you can do this for breast cancer screening or really anything else someone might be interested in learning. Again, charge a nominal fee ($5) to attend which goes to the pot. JP and Rhonda did a spirit board class which was well received. A MCTC TED talk may work as well.
  4. Virtual Movie Night – https://www.netflixparty.com/ Ask people to pay the price of a movie ticket to join.
  5. Ask Cory/Patrick about running an online video game tournament for students. Again, small entry fee, with winner receiving a prize.
  6. Have Larry do an online cooking night – small fee, Larry teaches you how to cook something fun for fall/Christmas.
  7. Host a day of grocery delivery – We could work with Kroger to have people order their groceries and we deliver for a fee, which goes to pink out.
  8. Virtual Raffle – same thing as your raffle in the lobby, we just take pics and ask people to buy online raffle tickets for each basket.
  9. Interactive games.
  10. Create a “Pink Out” mask for purchase.-Matt could you give us some suggestions?
  11. T-shirt contest design for October 2021 event.
  12. Virtual Walk
  13. Facebook live events
  14. Qdoba in lobby-to go.
  15. The foundation has a online platform that we could use.  Mesha created this example for us  https://www.mightycause.com/story/Iqabsf
  16. Any other ideas are welcome.
