Mountwest Foundation Student Emergency Fund

The Mountwest Foundation’s Student Emergency Fund exists to provide one-time, urgent and immediate financial assistance to students of Mountwest who experience unforeseen personal emergencies that are not directly related to their education, but could impact their ability to successfully continue their studies.

Example of Financial Hardship

  • Family/Personal Emergencies
  • Emergency Housing and Living Costs
  • Critical past due housing or utility expenses
  • Technology Needs
  • Transportation Needs
  • Natural Disaster Relief
  • Food or Clothing
  • Textbooks (If financial aid has been exhausted)

Eligibility

  • a student of Mountwest Community & Technical College
  • currently experiencing an unforeseen emergency
  • have exhausted all means of assistance through financial aid and resources provided at Mountwest

Procedure

  • Students must complete the online application to apply for funds.
  • The Mountwest Foundation will review requests and make determinations within 10 business days of receiving a funding request. When possible, expenses will be paid directly by Mountwest Foundation to the company or vendor in which the student intends to utilize the funding, rather than giving the money directly to the student.

Please note that Mountwest Foundation may not be able to fulfill all requests received, and requests will be considered on a case by case basis. Approved requests are contingent upon funding.

Beginning in Spring 2024, Mountwest Foundation Student Emergency funding will average around $100 or less per student.  Students will receive funding in the form of gas cards, grocery gift cards, uber/lyft gift cards, as appropriate rather than a distribution of cash.

The Mountwest Foundation’s Student Emergency Fund exists to provide one-time, urgent and immediate financial assistance to students of Mountwest who experience unforeseen personal emergencies that are not directly related to their education, but could impact their ability to successfully continue their studies. Funding may be limited and denied based upon the request, availability of funding, and more. While the goal is to help students in need, the administration of the fund is the responsibility of the Mountwest Foundation, and the organization may choose to approve or deny requests as desired. The Foundation may consider a student’s GPA, progress toward degree completion, attendance history, and academic status in the decision to grant funding, but are not limited to this criteria.

Have you checked with financial aid prior to submitting this request? Note: Students are required to exhaust financial aid resources prior to being eligible for the fund. If yes, please list who you spoke with and when. Mountwest Foundation will confirm with the Financial Aid Office:(Required)
Have you utilized on campus resources to meet your need? (Food-pantry, bus-passes, etc.) Note: Students are required to consider these as options prior to applying for the fund. Documentation

Students must submit documentation for their emergency to be considered for funding. Required documentation includes a letter of support from a member of Mountwest faculty or staff, a letter from the student, and documentation of bills.
