Sponsored Scholarships

With the help of generous private donors, Mountwest Community & Technical College offers a variety of student scholarships based on academic achievement, community involvement, leadership, area of study and financial need.

The deadline to apply for Fall 2024 scholarships is March 31, 2024.

Unless otherwise noted, all scholarships require students to submit the application, a copy of their unofficial student transcript and one letter of recommendation by the deadline.  All transcripts and letters of recommendation should be submitted electronically using the appropriate forms, as specified within the scholarship application.

Advanced Technical Solutions Excellence in IT Scholarship

– A full-time Mountwest student with declared major of Information Technology.

– In good academic standing

-Demonstrated financial need

Allied Health Scholarship

– A Mountwest student with declared major in healthcare field.  Preference will be given to students who have met all prerequisites and have been formally accepted into the technical portion of their academic program.

– In good academic standing

CK Civic League Scholarship

– Must be a graduating senior at  Spring Valley High School (Wayne County, WV).

– have plans to attend Mountwest as a full-time student.

– Be in good academic standing, with a minimum 2.50 GPA.

– Filed a FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Culinary Arts Scholarship

– A Mountwest student with declared major of Culinary Arts

– Show demonstrated financial need

– In good academic standing

Desiree L. Franklin Scholarship

– Recipient must be pursuing an industrial education degree.

– Preference will be given to children of coal miners.  Applicants should note this in the essay portion of their application.

Great Start Scholarship

– Must be a high school senior or first semester student at Mountwest.

– Must Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA on 4.0 scale.

– Be accepted to Mountwest with intentions of enrolling full-time or be currently enrolled full-time at Mountwest.

– Have a declared major in a technical field as defined in the Tech Scholars Scholarship below.

Karen S. Johnson Memorial Scholarship

– Be a student who is a cancer survivor or currently undergoing treatment, with breast cancer patients having priority. Students with chronic or debilitating condition(s) can be considered as well.  Medical documentation of condition must be provided from all applicants.

– Be a dependent 26 years old or younger of a parent or guardian with cancer; or a survivor.

– Be a student at Mountwest with at least one semester completed at the time of award.

– Be in good academic standing with a 2/5 cumulative GPA or higher.

– Show demonstrated financial need.

Lisa Smith Kroening Scholarship

This scholarship provides for student expenses related to books and supplies.

– A full time student of Mountwest Community & Technical College

– Demonstrated financial need.

Little Caesar’s Slice of Dreams Scholarship

The scholarship program is designed to provide educational support for employees and immediate family members of Little Caesars owned by VDM Management Group/DLC Pizza, Inc. Immediate family is defined as a spouse, daughter, son, legally adopted individual, mother, or father.

– Be enrolled in a degree or certificate program at Mountwest Community & Technical College, part-time or full-time.

– Be an employee or an immediate family member of an employee of Little Caesars as specified above.

– The qualifying employee at Little Caesar’s should be employed for a minimum of 6 months

Mountwest Leadership Scholarship

This merit-based scholarship recognizes students for outstanding service and leadership in their school or community.  This scholarship is awarded to new and current students who have demonstrated strong leadership skills and a commitment to serving other.

Mountwest Leadership Scholarship recipients serve their community in many ways, from mentoring Head Start students and organizing youth groups to leading clean-up efforts and volunteering as interpreter.

– A 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA on 4.0 scale.

– Demonstrated participation in volunteer activities that improve the quality of life in your community.

– Demonstrated leadership in school/community service activities, clubs, organizations or extra-curricular activities.

– Submitted a Mountwest enrollment application

– Filed a Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Presidential Honors Scholarship

This scholarship is available to new and existing students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. Priority will be given to Phi Theta Kappa students.

– A 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA average on 4.0 scale.

– Submitted a Mountwest enrollment application

-Filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

William L. & Marie E. Redd Scholarship

– Full time student of Mountwest Community & Technical College.

– Enrolled in an associate degree program

– Resident of Cabell or McDowell counties, W.Va.

– African-American

Nell Elizabeth Cook Rutherford Memorial Scholarship

– First priority is given to a female student from Wyoming County, W.Va., preferably a student studying to become a paralegal.

– Second priority is given to a female student from West Virginia, preferably a student studying to become a paralegal.

– Third priority must be given to a West Virginia student at Mountwest Community & Technical College.

Tech Scholars Scholarship Program

This scholarship program provides opportunities for students to enroll and graduate from applied technology programs.  The purpose of this program is to support students pursuing certifications and degrees in high-demand, high-wage career fields

Tuition Waivers

Mountwest offers scholarships/tuition waivers for the following students:

  • Members of the National Guard (receive resident tuition rates)
  • Employee, employee’s spouse and/or employee’s dependent children
  • Children and spouses of law enforcement, firefighter, National Guard, Reserve or Active Duty military personnel killed in the line of duty
  • West Virginia residents at least 65 years old
  • High school graduates in foster care

A limited number of metro tuition waivers are available to incoming freshmen from Gallia and Lawrence County high schools in Ohio. Students must apply through their high school counselors.
