Mountwest College Announces IT Internship Program

Students Gain Valuable Skills in a Real-World Environment

Huntington, WV— April 14th, 2022 – 10:00 a.m. Mountwest Community & Technical College has partnered with Ntiva, Inc., a Managed Service Provider (MSP), to open a Service Desk Academy that will enable Mountwest students to gain real world work experience while earning their degree in Information Technology.

The Service Desk Academy opened on April 1th, 2022 with 8 students, who will be trained and mentored on a live, fully functional professional IT service desk while earning their degree on the Mountwest campus.

“We are pleased to launch the Ntiva Service Desk Academy at Mountwest and help mentor future leaders of this community. This is our second successful service desk academy we have launched through the West Virginia Community and Technical College System, Learn and Earn program.” said Michelle Brockney, VP of Operations for Ntiva. “We believe strongly in coaching, developing, and leading young individuals who are looking to explore a professional path in IT, and are pleased to partner with the Mountwest community in this one-of-a-kind internship opportunity”.

The real-world involvement in their career field before they graduate is such an asset to their success.”, said Patrick Smith, Associate Professor of Information Technology, Network Systems and Security Instructor.

Mountwest’s President, Dr. Josh Baker, is delighted that Ntiva has chosen Mountwest for this partnership.  “We are proud to grow opportunities for remote work in West Virginia.”, said Dr. Baker. “What a great opportunity for our local community to have increasing access to tech jobs.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony including Mountwest and Ntiva participants will take place at 11:30am on April 20th, 2022 at Mountwest Community and Technical College.
