Mountwest Community & Technical College offers a variety of sponsored scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, area of study and financial need.

The deadline to apply for fall 2014 scholarships is currently closed. Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-May.

View the basic guidelines below or download the complete Fall 2014 Scholarship Guide. All applications must be submitted online unless otherwise noted. Students may apply for more than one scholarship.

Unless otherwise noted, all scholarships require students to submit the application, a copy of their unofficial student transcript and one letter of recommendation by the deadline. All transcripts and letters of recommendation should be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Office of Student Services, Room 101.

HOW TO APPLY

Advanced Technical Solutions Excellence in IT        Scholarship
Requirements:
- Full-time Mountwest student
- Declared major of Information Technology
- Demonstrated financial need
- In good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

Allied Health Scholarship
Requirements:
-A Mountwest student with declared major in the Allied Health & Life Sciences fields. Preference will be given to students who have met all prerequisites and have been formally accepted into the technical portion of their academic program.
- In good academic standing

Barboursville Rotary Scholarship
Requirements:
- A graduating senior in the Class of 2014 from Cabell-Midland High School (Cabell County, W.Va.)
- Show demonstrated community involvement
- In good academic standing

Bulldog Creative Scholarship
Requirements:
- A new or current student at Mountwest Community & Technical College
- Show demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
- In good academic standing, with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
- Declared major of Web design/development, graphic design and/or animation and gaming

Cengage Learning Scholarship
- A full-time Mountwest student
- Declared major of Information Technology
- Demonstrated financial need
- In good academic standing with minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

CK Civic League Scholarship
- A graduating senior in the Class of 2014 at Spring Valley High School (Wayne County, W.Va.)
- Plan to attend Mountwest full time in fall 2014
- Be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Show demonstrated financial need

Culinary Arts Scholarship
Requirements:
- A Mountwest student with declared major of Culinary Arts
- Show demonstrated financial need
- In good academic standing

Desiree L. Franklin Scholarship
Requirements:
- Recipient must be pursuing an industrial or technical education degree.
- Preference will be given to children of coal miners. Applicants should note this in the essay portion of their application.

Dr. Robert B. Hayes & Mr. Everett Black Honorary Scholarship
Requirements:
- Second-year student at the Robert C. Byrd Institute
- Enrolled in the CNC/Machinist Technology Program at Mountwest Community & Technical College

Karen S. Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Requirements:
- A cancer survivor or patient
- A student of Mountwest Community & Technical College, with at least one semester completed at time of award
- In good academic standing with a 2.5 cumulative grade point average or higher
- Demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
**Applicants must also submit written documentation from a healthcare provider that you are a cancer patient or survivor.**

Lisa Smith Kroening Scholarship
This scholarship provides assistance for student expenses related to books and supplies.
Requirements:
- A full-time student of Mountwest Community & Technical College
- Demonstrated financial need

Mountwest Leadership Scholarship
This merit-based scholarship recognizes students for outstanding service and leadership in their school or community. This scholarship is awarded to new and current students who have demonstrated strong leadership skills and a commitment to serving others.
Mountwest Leadership Scholarship recipients serve their community in many ways, from mentoring Head Start students and organizing youth groups to leading clean-up efforts and volunteering as interpreters.

Requirements:
- A 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average on 4.0 scale
- Demonstrated participation in volunteer activities that improve the quality of life in your community
- Demonstrated leadership in school/community service activities, clubs, organizations or extra-curricular activities
- Submitted a Mountwest enrollment application
- Filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Presidential Honors Scholarship
This scholarship is available to new and existing students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. Preference will be given to students who are participating in the BEACON project for 2014-2015 academic year. 
Requirements:
- A 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average on 4.0 scale
- Submitted a Mountwest enrollment application
- Filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

William L. & Marie E. Redd Scholarship
Requirements:
- Full-time student of Mountwest Community & Technical College. The recipient may be currently enrolled or newly admitted.
- Enrolled in an associate degree program
- Resident of Cabell or McDowell counties, W.Va.
- African-American

Nell Elizabeth Cook Rutherford Memorial Scholarship
Requirements:
- First priority is given to a female student from Wyoming County, W.Va., majoring in administrative technology, preferably a student studying to become a legal secretary
- Second priority is given to a female student from West Virginia, majoring in administrative technology, preferably a student studying to become a legal secretary
- Third priority must be given to a West Virginia student at Mountwest Community & Technical College

Mary Lou Sullivan Physical Therapist Assistant Scholarship
- Full-time student enrolled in Mountwest's PTA program
- Meet the requirements to enroll in the terminal clinical education courses during the second year of study in the A.A.S. degree program
- This one-time award may be used to provide assistance for student housing, food and travel expenses during the recipient's terminal clinical course.

Tech Scholars Scholarship Program
This scholarship program provides opportunities for students to enroll and graduate from applied technology programs. The purpose of this program is to support students pursuing certifications and degrees in high-demand, high-wage career fields.

W.W. Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® Scholarship
This annual scholarship program provides two $2,000 scholarships and a customized Westward® toolkit for students in skilled trades and/or public safety degree programs.

The deadline to apply for fall 2014 scholarships has passed. The next round of scholarships will be available in October 2014 for the spring 2015 semester.
