Mountwest Offers Deckhand Basic Training

Mountwest Community & Technical College is offering deckhand basic training February 29 to March 6 through its Maritime Academy. At the completion of this seven-day training, participants will be equipped with the skills and certification needed to join the rapidly-growing maritime industry.

Mountwest joins Pearson VUE Network to offer accessible and secure certification testing

Mountwest Community & Technical College has signed an agreement with Pearson VUE, the computer-based testing (CBT) business of Pearson, to test candidates pursuing key industry certifications from leading IT programs, such as Cisco, CompTIA, EMC, HP, LPI, Oracle and VMware.

Mountwest professor and students develop artificial hand for six-year-old boy

Christmas came early for a local boy whose wish list included something most people take for granted – a hand. Theodore Triplett, program coordinator of engineering design technology at Mountwest Community & Technical College, and his students presented Cooper, a six-year-old boy born without a left hand, with an artificial one that they developed using a 3D printer.

Mountwest to host Huntington Centennial Toastmasters Club

Mountwest Community & Technical College will open its doors to the Huntington Centennial Toastmasters Club at the beginning of 2016. The club, which aims to help individuals improve their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere, meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and will be sponsored by Mountwest’s office of Human Resources, Employee Development & Payroll. Established in 1972, the club has met in a variety of locations throughout the years, most recently at the Central Christian Church.

Mountwest to offer peer recovery support specialist certificate

Spurred by the area’s epidemic of overdoses from substance abuse, Mountwest Community & Technical College will offer a one-year peer recovery support specialist (also known as a recovery coach) certificate beginning in spring 2016.

Mountwest announces winner of Christmas card design contest

Mountwest Community & Technical College hosted a Christmas card design competition among its students for the second consecutive year. Twenty-three entries were submitted by students of different majors who were enrolled in a graphic design course at Mountwest. A card by Cameron Shannon, a freshman majoring in animation and game development, was selected as the winner.
