In fall 2012, Mountwest Community & Technical College moved to its new home--a beautiful 28-acre campus within two minutes of Interstate-64 and five minutes from downtown Huntington.
The majority of the college is now located on its main campus in a 115,000-square-foot academic building. Renovations to the facility, which was built in 1980 as the corporate headquarters for Ashland Coal Company and home to a number of other companies over the years, took about one year to complete.
The facility features five floors of classroom, laboratory, meeting and office space. With microbiology, engineering, computer, paramedic labs and more, the Mountwest campus will meet the needs of students in every field of study through hands-on experiences.
The campus is designed with students in mind. About 1,200 on-site students take advantage of our Academic Success Center; tutoring help in math and writing labs; a one-stop-shop for financial aid, registration, admissions, etc.; computer labs; study lounges; and career services.
In addition to its proximity to downtown Huntington and I-64, the campus offers students one location to attend class, study, eat, purchase books, meet with faculty, etc. The campus bookstore and cafeteria are located in the building as well.
Mountwest students and employees enjoy access to public transit throughout the day and 650 free parking spaces.
Mountwest continues to operate additional facilities that house the Center for Culinary Arts, Continuing & Corporate Education and Inland Waterways Academy.
