Mountwest receives $161,000 estate gift from community resident

Huntington, W.Va. -  Mountwest Community & Technical College recently received a gift from the estate of James Woodrow “Woody” Rutherford for a scholarship named for his late wife.

The gift of $161,548.88 further endows the Nell Elizabeth Cook Rutherford Scholarship, which benefits paralegal and administrative technology students at Mountwest.

“Scholarships are an investment in the success of a student,” said Jeff Faucette, president of the Mountwest Foundation. “Generous donors like Mr. Rutherford change the lives of students. Our students lift up their families, and that changes our entire community. Mr. Rutherford spent his life teaching this lesson, and this legacy continues to teach us all.”

Mr. Rutherford, who died in July 2013, was a retired physical science professor at Marshall University and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Rutherford first established the scholarship in 1987 in honor of his wife, the late Nell Elizabeth Cook Rutherford.
