Center for the Culinary Arts
The Center for Culinary Arts is the new home of Mountwest’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts programs, which previously operated out of the Cabell County Career Technology Center.
This 14,000-square foot building located at 1632 Eighth Avenue in Huntington was once home to the Mountain Bounty Kitchen, a shared-use commercial kitchen facility. It came equipped with a USDA approved kitchen; an FDA approved kitchen; warehouse space; faculty offices; kitchen equipment; several walk-in coolers and freezers; blast chiller; and bottle filling line.
Mountwest began renovating the space in 2011. It now includes one classroom; one computer learning lab; increased security; and network connections.
“This will give our students a complete culinary campus, one place to go for all of their instruction,” said Chef Lawrence Perry, culinary program director.
Private support will help Mountwest finish the space with the build-out of a large classroom, a “living” classroom, conference room and food storage areas.
