Mountwest Community & Technical College moved to its new home in August 2012. The main campus is located on 28.12 acres atop a hill overlooking the plush greenery of the West Virginia countryside. The campus is just minutes from Interstate-64, the Cabell-Wayne county line and the downtown Huntington core.
The majority of the College is located on campus in a 114,567 square foot academic center. The facility was built in 1980 as the corporate headquarters for Ashland Coal Company and has been home to a number of other companies over the years, including DirecTV. Mountwest spent 10 months renovating the former call center into a state-of-the-art academic facility for its students.
Hands-On Learning: The academic center offers five floors of classroom, laboratory, meeting and office space and 650 parking spaces. With physical therapy assistant, engineering design, information technology, paramedic labs and more, the Mountwest campus meets the needs of students in every field of study through hands-on experiences.
Student Services: The new campus is designed with students in mind. More than 2,000 on-site students are able to take advantage of the Academic Success Center; tutoring help in our math and writing labs; a one-stop-shop for financial aid, registration, admissions, etc.; computer labs; and study lounges.
Convenience: In addition to its proximity to downtown Huntington and I-64, the campus offers students one location to attend class, study, eat, purchase books, meet with faculty, etc. Mountwest students also have access to public transit all day long, including night classes.
Mountwest is already thinking about the future. As the needs of our students and local workforce continue to grow and change, Mountwest will have to expand its facilities, and our new campus provides space to do just that. What’s more, the Mountwest campus is a great addition to Huntington and its surrounding communities and offers Mountwest students a place to call their own.
Mountwest will continue to operate additional facilities to house the Center for Culinary Arts and Inland Waterways Academy.
We have the vision, but need the support of generous donors like you to make it a reality.
