At MCTC, our mission is to open doors for you. We are an open admission
college that exists to serve the education and training needs of our community.
As the relatively new President of MCTC, I have become concerned that our community
members may not fully understand the open door policy of community
colleges. Open door, open admission, and open enrollment are all synonymous
terms. Essentially, they mean that all citizens who have completed high school may
enroll. Those who have not obtained a high school diploma may also enroll under
a special category of admission.
The concept of the community college is to serve as a community learning center which helps all citizens
through educational and career development.
In this publication we are featuring a few of the many thousand students who have benefited from MCTC programs.
Jason Carter, Gary Bland, Jill Francisco, Rebecca Genau, Kim Kirby and Tristan Murphy all have great
stories to tell about the benefits of joining the MCTC learning family.
So now, how about you? We want to open doors for you! In order to help you walk through that door, I am
announcing three new programs that make it easier for first-time or returning students to get started.
- Join our Dialog program. Dialog is a peer to peer telecounseling program that will provide guidance to
you through every step along the way. Our telecounselors are expert students who "know the ropes."
They will work with you over the phone at times of your choosing. Dialog is a free service.
- Get an E-ZStart as an OWL. The E-ZStart Scholarship offers a free introductory college course to Older
Wiser Learners. If you are getting started in college as an adult student, E-ZStart is an excellent way to
begin with a group of other OWL students.
- Become a Presidential Fellow. This brand new program is available for all new students. It offers an array
of special benefits, including book store stipends and free coursework. Presidential Fellows agree
to follow a set of guidelines that are proven to increase student success. In return, Fellows, not only
increase their own success, but also receive a set of very valuable benefits from MCTC.
As you can see, this is a perfect time to get started on your new career pathway. The door is open. Take the
first step now. Pick up the phone and call (866) N-Rolled.
