Huntington, W.Va. - Job-seeking veterans and potential employers are invited to participate in the VetSuccess Employment Expo on Wednesday, April 10, at Mountwest Community & Technical College.
The expo will feature employers from federal, state and local agencies, as well as private employers. Veterans will have the opportunity to network with an array of companies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a class offered at no cost from 8 to 10 a.m. about resume development and how to network at an expo. Veterans are encouraged to dress for success and bring resumes, DD-214s and their Veterans Preference Letter, if available. Cory Payne, Mountwest’s Military and Veterans Program Manager, expects hundreds to attend.
“Veterans offer many skills that a standard individual may not have, so we’re really looking forward to this expo and anticipate great matches for both the employers and the veterans,” Payne said. “This expo is just one more opportunity for our community to prove to our veterans that they’re important to us and we’re committed to their success.”
Registration is free for employers, and there will also be a class offered from 9 to 10 a.m. regarding the hiring incentives for private sector employers, non-paid work experience program for federal employers, the no-cost interactive veteran employment Web site, supported OJT/Apprenticeships, and other Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) options. VR&E staff will also be available during the expo to answer any questions or concerns.
The event is hosted by the Huntington VA Regional Office, Mountwest Community & Technical College and Marshall University and will take place at Mountwest, which is located at 2205 Fifth Street Road in Huntington.
