Huntington, W.Va. - With the new location comes a new employment position for Mountwest Community & Technical College. Buckey Walters has been named the new Director of Public Safety for Mountwest, a position previously not needed since Mountwest was located on the campus of Marshall University and utilized their campus security.
Walters has a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a second Master’s degree in Education. Walters has been involved in law enforcement and corrections for more than 20 years being Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) Certified in the States of Nevada, Utah, Wyoming and Alabama. He retired as a Detective Sergeant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Division of Investigation where he was assigned to the North Central Narcotic Task Force in Fallon, Nevada.
Mr. Walters also has law enforcement experience from the United States Air Force/Air National Guard. In 2007, he deployed to Afghanistan and served as a First Sergeant for the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron with supervisory responsibilities over Wyoming and West Virginia operations and maintenance personnel. On July 15, 2010, he retired from the military with a total of 24 years of service combining active duty and the Air National Guard.
